Terms of Service
Last updated 1 September 2026
These terms apply when you book recording, mixing, mastering, production, dubbing or studio hire with Sur Bathiang Recording Studio. They are written plainly on purpose. If anything here does not match what we agreed with you directly, what we agreed with you wins.
Booking a session
All studio work is by prior booking. Sessions are scheduled in advance so the room is prepared and an engineer is available, which means we may not be able to accommodate anyone who arrives unannounced.
A booking is confirmed once we have agreed a date, the work involved and the price with you, and we have received a deposit of 50% of the agreed price. Until the deposit is paid we cannot hold the date for you.
Prices and quotes
The rates published on our website are indicative. The final price depends on what your project actually involves — session length, arrangement, number of musicians and post-production all affect it. We will confirm a price with you before work begins.
- Music Track, Full Song, Choir and Live Take rates are charged per song.
- Studio Time is charged by the hour or the day, and covers the work itself — recording, editing, mixing and voice dubbing.
- Albums, multi-song projects, film work and anything unusual are quoted individually.
Where work runs materially beyond what was quoted, we will tell you before continuing rather than adding to the bill afterwards.
Payment
A 50% deposit is payable to confirm the booking. The balance is due on completion, and we may hold delivery of final masters until it is settled. We issue a receipt for every payment we take.
Changing or cancelling a session
We need at least 24 hours' notice to move or cancel a booked session. Give us that and your deposit carries over to the new date, or is refunded in full if you would rather not rebook.
With less than 24 hours' notice — or if nobody arrives for a booked session — the deposit is not refunded. A slot held for you is time we have turned away other work for, and at that notice we cannot fill it.
If we ever have to cancel or move a session, we will offer you the earliest alternative slot and refund any deposit in full if you would rather not rebook.
Your music belongs to you
You own the copyright in the songs and performances you bring to us, and you own the finished recordings we make for you. Booking a session does not give us any claim over your music.
We keep session files after delivery so that we can produce further mixes, revisit a project, or supply replacement copies. We do not publish, license or share your recordings with anyone without your permission. If we would like to use an excerpt as an example of our work, we will ask you first.
You confirm that you have the right to record the material you bring us — that it is your own work, or that you have permission to record it.
Revisions and delivery
We will agree what you are getting and roughly when before we start. Reasonable revisions to a mix are part of the job; substantial changes to the arrangement or scope after work has begun are new work, and we will quote for them.
In the studio
- Please arrive on time. Session time booked is session time charged, and a late start shortens the slot rather than extending it.
- Our instruments and equipment are available for your session. You are responsible for any damage caused by misuse.
- We ask that you look after the rooms and treat our staff and other artists with courtesy. We may end a session where behaviour makes it unworkable.
- Bring your own storage if you would like to take session files away with you.
How we contact you
We will use the phone number, WhatsApp number or email address you give us to arrange sessions, send receipts and reminders, and answer your questions. You can ask us to stop at any time. How we handle your information is set out in our Privacy Policy, and you can ask us to delete it as described in Deleting Your Data.
Liability
We take real care with your recordings and keep backups of work in progress, but no storage is infallible. Where something goes wrong on our side, our responsibility is limited to redoing the affected work, or refunding what you paid for it. We are not responsible for loss of profit, lost opportunities, or other indirect losses. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Please keep your own copy of any material you supply to us.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version published here when you book is the one that applies to that booking.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of Shillong, Meghalaya have jurisdiction over any dispute.
